WHYNOT CLUB: THE INTRO

Hello and welcome to the first edition of Whynot Club’s weekly newsletter called Whynot Weekly. My name is Matt, the founder of Whynot Club. This is where I’ll be giving updates and news about run club, providing sneak peeks into the clothing and products we’re designing, as well as just some cool stuff I came across during the week that we want to share with you.

For those of you that don’t know, The Whynot Club started out in the end of May 2024. The team and I started a run club that wasn’t focused so much on the running, but more so the feeling you get while being there. We designed our run club experience primarily around socializing with other members, as a team, we believe that life is best lived off a screen and in real life, with real people, doing real things. As much as technology has improved our lives, these days we’re seeing more and more time stolen away from our generation, so much so that we (as in Gen-Z, apologies to our “older” members) are now known as the “loneliest generation”. We wanted to help be apart of the movement that counters this label, by providing a space for people to meet, move, get some sunlight and enjoy a coffee or scoop of ice cream. We’ve quickly grown to over 2,100 members in just over a year, and are steadily growing into a recognizable group within KW. Our plan for the foreseeable future is to keep delivering the best run club experience, social events (in whatever form they take, hint hint, we have some cool stuff in the works), and possibly begin working on a collection of clothing. More on that to come.

Last Week

Last week we hosted a run in Waterloo Park for Global Run Day alongside our friends at Runners in Motion, Sunday Funday, Lululemon, Red Bull, and other fitness organizations around KW. We had about 100 amazing people come out to run a 1.5km loop in the park (for as many times as they wanted) to celebrate the sport we all love, and dedicate so much of the success of our club to.

We also had our largest run club run of the year last Tuesday with 50 members making their way out for a gorgeous evening run with lots of sun, warm temps, and ice cream provided by our lovely partners at Four All ice cream in uptown.

This Week

This week we’ve got our regular run days/times with sunny weather forecasts ahead. As always, we’re looking for more pacers to join the team, if you’d like to get more involved, you can reply to this email or DM us @whynotrunclub on Instagram. See you out there!

Tuesday June 10 - 7pm meet at the Laurier sign at King/Uni intersection (5:30m and 6:15m pace groups)

Saturday June 14 - 11am meet at the Laurier sign at King/Uni intersection (5:30m and 6:15m pace groups)

Product Spotlight

Our long awaited first clothing collection is on its way, our debut products will likely* be our rest day hoodies, trucker hats, and dad hats. We had a blast doing a photoshoot for this drop with some of our members (see images below) and we’re excited to make a full release hopefully sometime into July. Stay tuned for more details and let us know if there’s any specific kinds of products you’d like to see from us, sky’s the limit!

I was doing some journaling this week, and was trying to come up with some sort of phrase or quote that best represented the mentality of the Whynot club. I started the club simply off the message of thinking “why not?” to myself after initially questioning why I’d want to begin a run club. I took a second guess at my second guess (a third guess?). So what I think best reflects us and the message I’d like to leave with you this week is to second guess your second guesses, I promise you cool stuff will happen.

Thanks for reading, see you next week.

Matt
